Shreveport Equality March, 2 pm, Sunday, June 11: Pride Month proclamation, speakers, signs (cash prizes!), and more
Shreveport, LA – June 7, 2017
PACE, Central Station, and The Korner Lounge are sponsoring the Shreveport Equality March this Sunday, June 11, at 2pm at the Caddo Parish Courthouse! LGBTQ+ communities and their allies will join together to march in unity and pride for full equality in solidarity with other marches around the world. Cash prizes will be given to the three best signs: $100 for the best sign and $50 each to two runners-up!!
Music will begin at 1:30 pm. Equality-minded organizations are invited to set up tables to distribute information. The rally will begin at 2 pm with Caddo Parish Commission President Steven Jackson reading a proclamation declaring June as Pride Month. Speakers will make brief statements before our march around the courthouse. The speaker lineup is:
David Hylan: A founding member of PACE and director of the award-winning documentary on the history of ACT UP Shreveport, “Small Town Rage: Fighting Back in the Deep South”;
Jada Durden: Travel, food, and culture blogger on her Loving This Life blog;
Rebecca Norris: Navy veteran and President of the Shreveport chapter of Louisiana Trans Advocates;
Rev. John Henson: Pastor of Church for the Highlands;
Frances Kelley: Be Fair Shreveport campaign team member and environmental advocate (leader in the Camp Minden project and North Louisiana for Earth and Water Justice);
Michael Chisum: a winner of The Shreveport Times NWLA Prism Award for LGBT Advocacy.

The night before the march, a candlelight vigil will be held in remembrance of the victims of the massacre at the Pulse night club in Orlando. The vigil will begin at 8 pm on Saturday, June 10, at The Korner Lounge, 800 Louisiana Ave. in downtown Shreveport.
